I like having sex with men but I find myself repulsed by the smells
associated with anal sex. I don’t understand how I can truly enjoy sex
by constantly being confronted with this issue. As gay man do you just
grow to accept the unpleasant sights and smells as unavoidable? I just
don’t like running to the shower and being afraid to look at my penis
for fear of what I might see.

Don't put pressure on yourself. There are plenty of men who do not like, or engage in anal sex. You are not alone.

To be blunt , This sounds like it may be a hygiene problem. If this bothers you try having sex in the shower. Also a big help that makes for more enjoyable sex is edible flavored massage oils that you can use for oral or anal sex.
