I\’m a 19 Year Old National Guardsman/Student/Police Cadet. Most people don’t know, wouldn’t expect, or don’t believe that I’m gay. I came out Junior year, and again in Basic Training. Life has got better, However, I scared myself when talking to my ex-boyfriend, we started dicussing if I wuld let ‘our kid’ get a sex change. Frankly, I find it wierd, maybe even disgusting, to be Trans or to wear drag. My ex used to wear drag and perform in drag shows and I found it a little embarassing. Please tell me if this is normal, seeing as I’m openly gay (if you ask). Am I being hypocritical?

People are diverse and the LGBTQ commnuity is no different. Our community is made up of many different types of people. And like life in general, you should be more tolerant and accepting of people different than you.
I think you inherently know this, because you’re questioning you’re actions and beliefs about this topic. Although you have been able to assimilate into the general population(most people don’t know you’re gay), not all people who identify differently can do that. It would be unatural for them to deny their true identities.
Being more tolerant will serve you well as you prepare for a career in civil service, and a good next step would be to look inward, to see if your feelings are coming from internalized homophobia.
No, it’s a personal taste. Just as in you find a certain food or behavior disdainful, you will find other things that offend you. No, it’s not hypocritical, being gay does -NOT- mean feminine, it means interested in the same sex, so do not feel obligated to do anything you don’t want to. I will say transgender is not a choose, and therefor slightly cold to treat someone differently for. But once again this your choice. I wish you the best. 🙂
