Gay Question and Answer Archive

My name is Mike, I’m 20. I started hanging out with a guy I work with about 4 months ago. He’s one of my best friends now. We want to work together this winter on starting our own businesses and travel a bit. He is straight and knows I’m gay and is perfectly fine with it. I’m starting to develop feelings for him, well they were always there but have gotten stronger recently. I value or friendship greatly but being around him is painful, because I know friendship is as far as I will ever have the chance to go. I want to distance myself but were friends we do a lot of stuff together. I feel like I’m in a weird place, deceitful almost. I don’t know what I should do.

You should be open with him, and let him know how you feel, so that he knows where you're coming from. That should take care of the dishonest part. You'll also know if he really has no desire for a same sex relationship. Then, you will have to decide if you can have a friendship that can exist with the commonality that you two have created, or if you will be too distracted by your feelings for him.
