Gay Question and Answer Archive

I have a friend who is 20 years old, and me and many of his closest fiends and acquaintances think the he might be gay. I am a straight man but I am very openminded when it comes to race, culture, gender, and sexuality. I would like to know if there is a good way or any respectful way to just straight up ask if he is gay. The way I see it, and I may be wrong or right,  but the way I see it is if he is gay he should not have to be afraid to be gay and I want him to know he has my support if he is gay. Long story short with him is he has opportunities with many girls and yet with most he takes most of them enough until the point of sex. What can I say or how do I ask him that won’t be offensive?

I’m sensing that when he chooses to come out he will do so, but when he is ready to accept himself and how people perceive him. It can be particularly difficult to come out if he is concerned about his outing to family whom he may be dependent on. It’s great that you’re a supportive friend and willing to reach out to him. The support of one straight friend always makes a huge difference. As you state straightforward and respectful is the best approach. Good luck!
