I have been waiting to tell my parents that I am gay because I don’t want things to be awkward between us. So I have decided to wait till I leave for college in 15 months. I know they will accepting, but I just don’t want to constantly be near them if they don’t completely understand right away. Mom or dad do not suspect anything yet, and I am wondering if waiting will make it harder for them to come to terms with their only son being gay.

Thanks for the question. You absolutely should wait until you feel you are ready to tell them. I think most parents already know, and when they’re told it doesn’t come as an absolute shock. I don’t think waiting will make it harder on them, and I do believe they will be accepting and still love you.
