General Question and Answer Archive

Crazy Craigslist Ads. May work better in a different category, but I am concerned about seemingly sensible, personable, bright young men posting crude ads on local Craigslist asking to have sex with strangers. This is a rural community where any response could be a fake. I don’t understand why you would risk your health and safety to post?

I agree. It's very risky and dangerous to post and answer this way. The postings are not limited to the LGBTQ community but can also be found in the straight community as well. It's also creepy that there are plenty of straight men who pose as gay men, and straight men who pose as women on-line to lure people for their lascivious intent.

You make an astute observation. We're singing in the same choir.

In a previously posted response to a reader, I wrote about the physical and emotional dangers of anonymous and commercial sexual experiences: an increased risk for depression; STDs; AIDS; and an increased risk of interpersonal violence and a corresponding denial of legal justice. I recommend that you scroll through the website and give it a read.

Readers, if you are hankering for sex, don't count on achieving satiety from a serving of "McSex", the junk food of sexual encounters. If you are concerned about your health, limit your sexual prowlings to ones that lead you to a known partner; and play safely only after having informed yourself of all the potential health risks.

Constant vigilance - Justin

P.S. (To all who persist in having high-risk sexual encounters with strangers, if the person whose name you don't even know can sing all the words to "Careless Whisper", DON'T LET HIM DRIVE YOU ANYWHERE.)
