General Question and Answer Archive

Well I’m 21 and I just started my new job about six mouths ago. There’s this guy that I knew I liked right away and as the days go by it gets worse. At first the questions he asked me seemed pretty basic like “where’d did buy your shirt?” And ” am I saying your name right?” But now its “are you working this weekend?” I don’t think much about this because he could just be trying to be friendly. I do however feel like he has a hard time talking with me and not other people. Almost like he’s careful with his choice of words. I’m really shy around people I like so it doesn’t help at all plus I’ve never told anyone I like guys and don’t plan to any time soon. I catch him looking at me a lot with like these still eyes when he around me and he just started to smile at me a week ago but I smile at everyone. So I started to try and open up a little around him and smile more and he started to talk more and he even made a joke. I need help, you know you’ve got it bad when you start to dream about someone and wonder what their doing all day.

Thanks for the question. Flirtations, crushes, and even budding romances in the workplace can be intoxicating. For the myriad of problems that can occur, I would suggest focusing on your work, and leaving your social life for your off work hours. Trust me on this one.

While workplace romance can be tricky and could cause problems if you aren't careful - I'm not sure if I'd write it off. If you can both be adult and professional it can work out. When you spend most of your waking hours in the workplace it's hard to meet people - so if you happen to find someone you connect with at work I'd take a chance for love.
