I congratulate you on having recently come out of the closet. Let me be among the first to welcome you to the fold. Your question is not the least bit strange. I have encountered many newbies to life out of the closet who have wondered exactly the same thing. As far as I know, the idea that gay men identify themselves to other gay men by wearing an earring in a pierced ear on a particular side of the head is just an urban legend – and a very poorly defined one at that. If you ask two gay men if gay men are supposed to wear an earring in their left ear or their right ear in order to identify themselves as gay, you will get two different answers. I’m as confused as you are.
