Do you think Homosexual Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (HOCD) is real?

Justin

The suggestion of a mental disorder called Homosexual Obsessive Compulsive Disorder began as a joke by some heterosexuals who were so frustrated by their failed relationships with people of the opposite sex that they began attributing them to the absurd possibility that they might actually be gay without even realizing it. Although the joke about H.O.C.D may not be hysterically funny, it is a clever and insightful commentary on the widespread success Big Pharma and the rest of the medical industrial complex have had in convincing the public that every troubling human behavior can be diagnosed as a mental disorder that needs to be treated with their expensive and toxic medications with long lists of potentially harmful side effects that are often disregarded. Keep checking this site. Some future question just might spark a dissertation from me on that lighthearted subject. You should know by now that I have an opinion about it ...

In the meantime, please do NOT lose any sleep worrying about H.O.C.D.

I wish you fair winds and following seas.

No, I don't. First, if someone believes they have OCD, then they should consult a licensed therapist. The characteristics of OCD can only be diagnosed by a trained therapist.

"Only trained therapists can diagnose OCD.
Therapists will look for three things:
--The person has obsessions,
--He or she does compulsive behaviors, and
--The obsessions and compulsions take a lot of time and get in the way of important activities the person values, such as working, going to school, or spending time with friends."

Again, if a person feels that his/her thoughts are dominated by a certain topic, then he/she should seek professional counseling.
