Is it common for gay people (both men and women) to be turned on by their own body?

Justin

It is no more common amongst gay people than it is amongst straight people. Narcissism is not an attractive quality in anyone, but is is not narcissistic to have a healthy appreciation and respect for the gift of your body. Our bodies are beautiful, and I recommend that do all that you can do to keep yours as healthy as possible. Love yourself as you are today; love your body just as it is today; embrace any opportunity for self-improvement. As Whitney sings, "Learning to love yourself, it is the greatest love of all." If you don't love yourself, you can't truly love others. It's an outdated, stereotypical notion to suggest that gay people are gay because they are narcissistic. If someone is making that suggestion to you, dismiss it for what it is.

Having a good body image is healthy whether you are straight, gay or anything else. I think people in general (straight, gay and others) are conscious of their own appearances and how they are perceived to the outside world. Speaking for myself I can tell you that I am not attracted to myself just because I choose to be with someone of the same sex nor do I know of anyone that would fit what you describe. I agree with Justin that it is an outdated notion to suggest that gay people are narcissistic.
