Lesbian Question and Answer Archive

Hi! I’m kind of dating a girl who has not yet come out. Which I’m completely cool with. The problem is we both joke a lot, and even flirt on the phone, but when we’re going out, we’re Always in public and I’m afraid of saying something that can be overheard by someone or make any kind of physical contact, because I don’t want to get her in trouble. In the beginning, I was just waiting for her to make the first move, so I knew it was ok to speak freely or some friendly touching. But now, I’m starting to think that I may have misunderstood the situation. And asking her to meet somewhere private sounds kind of wrong since we’ve been on several coffee dates, but we have not kissed yet.

The only way to know if you misunderstood the situation, if she is just having coming out issues, if the dynamics of your relationship have changed or if there is another reason, is to talk to her. Good communication is the only way to truly know and share what each of you are feeling. You will probably need to be the one to initiate the talk. Good luck!
